So last night and most of this morning (until 2 pm local time) Jack and I had a little bit of troubles. To avoid being too graphic I will sum up the period with the following picture and story. At about noon the cleaning lady came by to ask if we needed anything, we told her toilet paper. She looked at us, kind of smiled, and brought some along with new towels. We really like our cleaning lady.
We were feeling better after taking some medicine and decided to head out to the Egyptian Museum. Before going I was convinced that we needed some food and so we went to a nice little restaurant that apparently sees a lot of tourists. After the meal we headed to the museum but not before an Egyptian man convinced us to take a look at his shop full of perfume from the lotus flower. It actually did smell really nice but we decided we did not want any. The museum allows zero photographs of the inside but you can take some from outside.
Once inside we saw a couple of rooms but then Jack, due to dehydration and lack of nutrients, almost passed out. It was a scary experience to say the least. I gave him the rest of my water and a cliff bar and after about half an hour of rest we decided to head back to hotel for the day. Right now he is sleeping, and I may do the same since I am still not 100% from this morning. Hopefully, we both feel better after the nap and are up to go someplace for dinner. All is not doom and gloom though and we can still see the Egyptian Museum with our extra days at the end (I accounted for something to go wrong). Maybe I will do some more reading of Liar’s Poker and take advantage of the extra rest we will have to call people. Also, Raisin (a small stuffed animal bear that Katie gave me) and I need to bond some as I forgot to sleep with her last night. My stuffed animal addiction continues on overseas and Raisin is a nice token to remind me of home. For those of you who have seen Inception, I decided my totem would have to be a stuffed animal, most likely Babar. As I said at the end of my last blog post, gotta keep thinking big picture.
One other fun “game” Jack and I have started is called the two finger test. At the end of the day we run two fingers across our forehead to see how much soot and dust we have accumulated. It is quite shocking and I am sure the sunscreen I apply at the beginning of the day does not help.
Nutritional section
I had breakfast again downstairs and this time they gave us a pear instead of cantelope. The pear was disgusting but the bread was still good. The picture below is the meal we ordered at the restaurant Felfela. It is half chicken and rice, and yes I did eat the carrots.
Too bad! My advice: don't eat anything that hasn't been cooked (sorry, no fresh vegetables).
ReplyDeleteI guess the good news is that once you get the local flora of bacteria in your gut you are good to go. Remember, when Mexicans come to America, they get sick. It is just biology. I am shocked that Jack is not walking around with a bottle of water. Easy to digest food and tons of water. Tonne should help you get back on your feet. Maybe he can contract with Katie and she could help his nutritional intake. And of course, the third day for me is the worst day for that final bit of jet lag. Glad to hear you are making the most of your time and taking care of your buddy.
ReplyDeleteDas strugglefest suckst.
Follow up comment. I hope Raisin gets a chance to get out and see some sites. Raisin in a picture with a pyramid? Like the gnomes that get to travel?
ReplyDeleteAgreed!! The "nutritionist" gives her complete and total approval to forgo fresh fruits and vegetables since they run the risk of prolonging "the troubles." I remember that part when I was in Guatemala on my mission trip... not fun, not fun at all.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for Raisin being in a picture, I vote yes! The people at Travelocity will be asking her to be their next roaming gnome.
